Sink your teeth into GC’s newest club: the Vampire Club. The club meets once a month and discusses everything from vampire literature to their personal favorite vampires. The Vampire Club kicked off in October 2023 with an interest meeting and then was officially started in January 2024 by Savannah Schofield, a junior English Major.
“We started Vampire Club to provide a place for people who love vampire-related media to get together and share their favorite things about vampires,” Schofield said.
They do not wear vampire teeth and avoid garlic; instead, the students dive into the world of vampires, whether it is the song “vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo or which brother is hotter in “The Vampire Diaries.”
“Vampire Club meetings will be mostly discussion-based, and we encourage all of the people who attend to share their opinions on whatever the topic of the meeting is,” Schofield said. “We are also planning on hosting some game night meetings in the future, which will be very interactive.”
The vice president of the club, Adrienne Cook, who is a junior English major, explains that this club actually started thanks to “The Twilight Saga” film adaptations of the books.
“Savannah started the club just as a place to discuss ‘Twilight’ in a club setting, and then we both got really excited about the idea of a club themed entirely around vampires and vampire media, literature and film and such,” Cook said.
The club has held two meetings so far. The first one was “Twilight” themed, and the second one consisted of ranking vampires on a tier list. Their list consisted of almost 50 vampires, with about 20 ending up in the top tier.
Schofield explains that everyone is welcome to the Vampire Club meetings, and they encourage everyone to come and expand their knowledge of the world of vampires. It is also another way to connect with like-minded and passionate fellow vampire enthusiasts. Both Cook and Schofield say the meetings are a safe and happy environment.
“Oftentimes, vampire movies in particular are labeled as poorly written or as something which only girls would be interested in,” Cook said. “So, it’s really cool to have this space where anyone of any gender can express what they like about the subgenre.”
“Once I heard that a vampire club was being started at GCSU, there was no hesitation that I was going to join it,” said Olivia McDuffie, a first-year English graduate student. “If there’s something I love more than vampires, it’s discussing vampires with people who share that same love.”
For those looking for a thrilling experience, attending GC’s Vampire Club meetings might just be the perfect choice. Whether a die-hard fan or simply curious, it is a great way to indulge in guilty pleasures or discover a new interest.
The club’s next meeting will be Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. in A&S 242, or visit their Instagram, @gcsuvampireclub. They encourage everyone to consider bringing out their inner vampire and joining them.
