Marta Knapp, senior psychology major, is the 2023 Panhellenic President at GC. As president, she oversees all sorority life on campus.
As Panhellenic President, Knapp meets with the Panhellenic executive board to discuss what is to come in sorority life and what needs to be done. She meets with the presidents of each chapter to address updates, needs and changes.
Knapp was inspired to run for her position by members of her sorority, Kappa Delta, and members of the previous Panhellenic executive board. Her experience serving as a Pi Chi, someone who helps guide potential new members through recruitment, sparked her passion for Greek Life.
“My passion for Greek Life continues to be fueled by the amazing things that are happening amongst the eight panhellenic chapters on this campus,” Knapp said. “Our chapters are made up of the strongest, kindest, most hardworking body of women I’ve ever seen. The philanthropies they serve, and the communities of sisterhood they build are so special. There is truly nothing like it.”
During her time as Panhellenic President, Knapp has gain confidence and developed key skills that will be useful after she graduates in May 2024.
“I attend throughout the week for various purposes/concerns,” Knapp said. “While it can be difficult to balance everything Panhellenic with school and the other organizations I’m a part of, I’m always able to make it work. Being in this position has helped tremendously with my ability to time manage, organize, and communicate. I couldn’t have grown in these skill sets without this position!
Sorority members who interact with Knapp say that she is dedicated to her work as president, and she works hard to ensure that sorority life is enjoyable for all who are a part of it.
“Marta is very determined,” said Abbee Walters, a senior psychology major and Panhellenic Delegate for Phi Mu. “She is organized, personable and funny. I meet with Marta biweekly to discuss everything that’s going on with each sorority. She’s fun to meet with and makes the process enjoyable. You can tell she likes her position and respects it.”
Throughout her time as president, Knapp has helped put on homecoming week, Greek Week and recruitment at GC. She has aided in helping sorority events such as philanthropy events and sisterhood events take place during her time.
“She was a perfect president because I can tell she really cares about her job and bringing the Panhellenic community together,” said Sara Jewel Simpson, a junior psychology major. “I wanted to be better at my job and be more involved because of her. I look at our community with so much love and appreciation for each of us, and I think it’s because of how she has framed everything. She is going to make such a difference in this world beyond what she already has done. I’m so thankful to be able to call her my friend now.”
Knapp’s term as president is coming to an end this semester, and she is looking forward to seeing what the next Panhellenic President and executive board will accomplish.
“I want to emphasize again that I could not have done anything without the other members of the panhellenic executive board, the panhellenic delegates, chapter presidents and so many others,” Knapp said. “They truly make everything go round and did their jobs so well.”
