The GC Bobcats headed down to Saint Augustine, Florida Feb. 15-16 for the Spring KickOff Intercollegiate. With team rounds of 293, 304 and 302 the team finished 15 out of 19 teams.  The tournament consisted of many teams ranked top-25 in the country. The tournament  was hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at the Par 72 St. John’s Golf & Country Club course. Lincoln Memorial won the tournament with team scores of 275, 279 and 283 which totaled to 27 under par.

This was the first time the Bobcats had been in action since last spring  due to cancellations coming from COVID-19.

“It was exciting,” said head coach Jimmy Wilson. “With the season ending unexpectedly last Spring and not playing in the fall it was awesome to be back out there with the guys.”

The Bobcats were led by junior Daniel Davis who put up rounds of 72, 73 and 72 to finish the tournament at one over par. The fourth year veteran placed in a tie for 18 out of 104 with a  top 20 finish.

“ I wasn’t really on top of my game entirely, but I felt in control of my iron shots and my driver,” Davis said.

Senior Austin Macilla posted the second best total score for the Bobcats over the 27 hole stretch. With rounds of 71, 75 and 75 Mancilla finished at five over par and tied for 41 place. Macilla, who is a former All-Peach Belt Conference selection, was the only Bobcat with a round under par.

“It’s not what I expected,” Macilla said. “There was a lot of rust, but the game is trending in the right direction.”

Isaac Samples was the third best finisher for the team. Samples posted  scores of 76, 79 and 74 which put him at 13 over par. Samples finished the tournament in a tie for 75 place.

Bobcat freshman Max Sheppard made his collegiate  debut. Sheppard posted  scores of 74, 77 and 81 for 16 over par, finishing in a tie for 85 place. Sheppard fought through a back  injury that occured in his second round of the tournament.

Sophomore Mikey Leanos rounded out the Bobcats lineup with scores of 79, 81 and 81 for 25 over par which finished  in a tie for 100 place.

The Bobcats will look to improve off of this finish as they head to the Bearcat Classic March 8-9. With leadership from experienced Head Coach Jimmy Wilson and other veterans on the team, the Bobcats hope to finish strong in upcoming tournaments  as they look to make a run at the Peach Belt Conference Championship.
